Ignorance of Awesome Consequence

     Today we are standing on the edge of a change that feels fundamental, profound and permanent. The world feels different, it is different, and something has been lost. It is sad really but destiny is destiny. We humans seem to have to learn everything the hard way and arrogance, as usual, propels people and groups to do stupid things. It was obvious to many people that September 11th changed the world, but nobody could imagine how deep those changes would be. And here we are with a war, and the doorway is just opening to what will be. What we have been moving toward since the 11th is just arriving, we are at a new beginning, entering an age of human ignorance of awesome consequence. Maybe we will end up calling it the Digital Dark Age.

     It’s like a killer whale roaring up from the deep, and we are sitting above in our little rubber raft, about to be catapulted high into the sky. Funny some people think they can avoid the show by not giving it any energy, by being endlessly positive, not realizing that this is part of what is creating the show. As a race we have not woken up to any new evolutionary messages and are facing the result, rapidly escalating human conflict. If we are not careful we will be left in the debris of a social order that is even now beginning to disintegrate. By not dealing directly with conflict we only generate more. The lives of everyone will be touched for we all share in the world system and in the world psyche. Though our awareness of global events is growing we have not evolved consciously to a higher state of consciousness and are thus again allowing the lowest elements of our race drive world events.

     Someone wrote this today referring to Bush who is running a giant country that is no longer inclined to watch its step. America, the only superpower has become a don't-give-a-damn-what-anybody-else-says nation, and ultimately, because of that, a frightening nation. "The country for which the world wept in September 2001 is now the country much of the world fears. For many people, the most dangerous man on the planet is not Saddam, but Bush." writes Leonard Pitts Jr. But the majority of Americans laugh off such thoughts or feelings, and in this non-listening the dark night takes shape.

     For people who do not know it, human darkness is pretty much centred around hate, and yes other things like greed, selfishness, attachment and possessiveness play their crucial roles. Before September 11th America and Americans had been hated by multitudes around the globe for what they have done to the globe and many of its peoples these past few decades. Things that most Americans have not wanted to hear about. The most important thing that is happening today is that this war is cultivating a ground swell of hate. This war will insure that the levels of hate will go up all around the world with America being the prime target and focus. Hate translates into terrorism in the Digital Dark Age. After September 11th if the United States wanted truly to reduce the threat of terrorism and increase national and personal security, they would have done everything opposite to what they are doing now; so their agenda must be hidden and entirely something else, or they are just crazies.

     The dark horseman, we are seeing him in all his glory, or perhaps it is just the beginning and we have not seen anything yet. Clearly the present situation has the potential to produce a slew of unintended or unforeseen consequences beyond the U.S.'s ability to handle them. We are again in a time were millions of men and women are willing to lay down their lives for the men or beliefs that lead them and this is most terribly expressed in the nature of suicide bombers. Westerners do not really understand the mind and heart of the Arab who takes it culturally and religiously as a point of honour to fight and die, even in extreme situations where their fearless leader is hated. The president of Egypt said this week that the present war will create 100 bin Ladens, and I imagine he knows what he is talking about. A great part of the problem from the western side is the age-old insanity of Christianity that goes on in total blindness to its own psychosis of thought. The leader of the western world is very much into this psychosis leading him to act and talk in ways the world can hardly believe. One thing Christians have mastered through these two thousand years, they certainly can sound good, moral and upright while they proceed to do the most terrible things. But what they have done in the name of God speaks so loudly we should never listen any more to anything they say. But regardless, we are again caught up in another Crusade.

     We will all literally pay. The price tag will be huge and it will be paid. In terms of economics and the international economy, it was all a disaster waiting to happen. It is happening, but again we are at the very early stages, we are at the edge of the pit looking down a long dark and deep black hole. And perhaps this is the good news. Perhaps the only way to stop planetary warming and ice cap melt is to have it all stop quickly. An economic meltdown would do much more than any of the international accords that are hamstrung by a US administration wanting the opposite of what most of the world wants. But economic meltdowns are very painful for almost all except those at the top. Others think it good news also because they think intense world events will wake us up.
