Everything that exists, exists in space. All bodies are joined by space. For humans the internet offers a new space that can connect us like normal space connects all things. This is a new space in which we can live, socialize, do business, love, communicate, build communities towns and cities, learn, and even get married. But beyond all this lies a new potential, something unseen, unknown even to the most savvy internet users. Cyber space can be used as a powerful instrument for healing, for spiritual growth, for mental and emotional expansion. With the internet, when used properly, we can actually expand our awareness as it amplifies certain aspects of our consciousness.

     Though the internet is seen as a vast receptacle and conveyer of information, it is also a channel in which something even vaster can be communicated. Information, as normally thought of is the act of communicating knowledge or intelligence. But when we communicate and share our beings, our hearts and souls, how can we reduce these aspects of ourselves into digital code? How can love, how can the heart or essence of ourselves be transmitted through cyber space? The fact is that we can and we do and that in the future the internet and virtual reality will become one of the best and easiest places to communicate the deepest and most vulnerable inner realities of our inner beings.

     The act of informing one another about our knowledge is so much easier than the transmission of the full reality and existence of who we really are. When we limit our perceptual definitions of human awareness we limit our very idea of what can be transmitted, shared, and communicated through space. In the most basic way, being trapped by physical, social, intellectual, and conceptual levels of awareness leaves us playing with half a deck in cyber space, with an emotional flatness that betrays our essential needs. Even beyond the imagination, with all its power to communicate through images, is a level of existence of pure being, a level unexplainable to the intellect or physical levels of the mind. The sixth perceptual level, the level of intuition, will take on new importance in cyber space because on the internet we are having to do without the physical senses. Though normally one of the weakest perceptual levels, this weakness can be overcome. With the intuition we can listen to the space between another's words, we can hear a persons being, their essence through the ability to listen to what a person is not saying as much as it is to what they do say.

     Interesting when Francis Cairncross wrote about the Death of Distance. Though he was fascinated about the internet's economic force shaping influence on the future he could not imagine its potential to actually amplify certain aspects of human consciousness. What is intuition anyway but the perceptual ability to cut through both time and space; the perceptual capacity and ability to jump through complex labyrinths of intellectual and conceptual sophistry to simple truth. The intuition can be defined as knowing without knowing how we know. We just know. But humble people know enough to check out their intuitions with other perceptual levels; they check out their perceptions, they cross check with the intellect, and they communicate to find out what is real and what is not.

     The internets distance killing characteristics actually amplifies, reinforces and trains our inherent human perceptual ability to intuit reality. How? It does this in two ways. Without the distraction of visual, auditory, and general physical cues, we are being forced to stretch other more penetrating potentials of perception. This runs contrary to the entire lock step thinking about internet use and its future. Almost all are complaining about the lack of visual cues like that was some kind of devastating handicap and that face to face communication was the end all and be all.

     The second aspect of the internet that is amplifying our consciousness is this ability to travel around the globe and touch people. We can create and communicate with a network of close friends or colleagues who we get closer and closer to the more we communicate with them. There is a mind expanding and heart expanding effect as we begin to identify with these other beings that simultaneously exist and communicate with us. We find our consciousness reaching out to these beings even when we are off line. And when we do we reach out with the speed of consciousness which is even faster than light, faster than the fastest internet connection.

In our consciousness we can be wherever we want

     In fact you can only be where your heart is. We can be sitting at a movie but when our heart is not there "we" our true being is really not there. This hints at our capacity to really travel through time and space and be with people who are not present to our senses. This is all amplified by constant internet use. We all have an inner consciousness that is independent of the physical location of the body. We can develop this self now more than ever before and in reality we are needing that self. As John Suler, an internet psychologist has stated, "If intuitive perception exists then the difference between in person and virtual social contact becomes rather insignificant." And since the most brilliant mind of the century, Albert Einstein said, " The basis of true thinking is intuition.....I think with intuition," we can lay to rest, with security and confidence, the specualation or doubt surrounding this most basic perceptual abilitity. Minds that doubt the intuitive powers of the heartmind are just displaying the poverty of their own perceptual powers and ability to think and perceive on this essential level.
